In May of 2016 a group of 9 founding members met shortly after a recent mine closure with the loss of 400+ jobs. They all agreed Sussex was much more than a mining Town and committed to making Sussex a destination. After considering several investment options, it was decided that New Brunswick and in particular Southern N.B., was under served by the craft spirit market, whereas in neighboring Nova Scotia, numerous local craft distillers were providing high quality product to local consumers.
Sussex also has a long history of contribution to the beverage market with Sussex Mineral Spirits and Sussex Ginger Ale, and with ready access to fresh fruit and grains, it seemed to be a natural fit.
