Kounický pivovar s. r. o
The first written mention of the brewery is from the turn of the 16th century, when Prokop Dvořecký from Olbramovice exchanged the brewery together with the entire Kounický manor with Jan Rudolf Trčka. In the 18th century, the exhibitions of the Kounický brewery reached up to 1300 hectoliters of beer annually. In 1884, the brewery and malt house were bought by the Klusáčk family, which until then had been the tenant of the brewery in Český Brod for two generations. In this period, annual beer exhibitions in Kounice reached 3500-5000 hectoliters. The construction of new modern breweries in Český Brod, Nymburk, as well as the developing brewery in Kostelec nad Černými lesy were a big competition, so in 1900 František Klusáček ended beer production in Kounice and rebuilt the entire building into a malt house. Until 1948, when the malt house was nationalized, it produced malt mainly for breweries in Prague. After nationalization, it belonged to the Commercial malt houses. In 1992, the malthouse returned to the ownership of the Klusáčk family as part of restitution. At the beginning of 2011, engineer Karel Klusáček decided together with Jan Žižka to build a microbrewery and founded the company Kounický pivovar s.r.o. After 1.5 years of construction preparations and then construction, the first batch of Kounice lager was brewed in August 2012, thus renewing the tradition of brewing beer in Kounice after 112 years. The brewery is situated in the buildings of the medieval brewery and the adjacent stables, which until recent times served as malthouses and warehouses.
