Löwenbrauerei Elzach
The Löwenbrauerei Dold Elzach celebrated this in 2006 150 years Anniversary.
The first beer brewer was Konstantin Dold Sr., who came to Elzach from the Villinger area in 1856 and married Pauline Merkle from the “Löwen” here. The beer he brewed and filled into wooden barrels was first stored in a rock cellar in the Buchwald. Later Konstantin Dold Jr. A tunnel was driven into the mountain behind the current brewery site at the foot of the Haldenwäldel in order to be able to store the beer cold there. Until 1926, cooling was carried out using natural ice, which was “harvested” from the ice pond in winter and stored in the storage cellar, slowly releasing the temperature. A new brewhouse with a mowing house was built in what is now Weyergasse in 1894 behind the Löwen inn. In 1952 a new brewhouse with a capacity of 2,700 liters was built on the road to the hospital. In 1967, a new brewhouse was needed again with a capacity of 4,500 liters. At that time, all wooden storage barrels were replaced with new metal storage tanks. In 1969 a new bottle cleaning and filling plant was built, which has been repeatedly renewed and expanded in the following years until today. Otto Dold owned the brewery from 1947 to 1988. His son Johannes Dold has been running the brewery since 1995.
