The Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus AG can look back on a tradition-rich company history.
The brewery was founded in 1791 by the nearby Benedictine monastery St. Blasien at the restaurant “Zum Rothen Haus” .Since a short time later the brewery Rothaus came into the possession of the Grand Duchy of Baden in the course of secularization and since then has been named “Grand Ducal Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus “. Since the abolition of the monarchy in 1918 and reorganization into a joint stock company only four years later, the brewery Rothaus bears her current name.
Today, the state of Baden-Württemberg is the only shareholder of Rothaus Brewery through a state-owned investment company.
