The history of our traditional company begins in 1809. At that time, Karl Husband founded the brewery in the Ochsenfurt Kastenhof. In the apprentice Johann-Jacob Gehring, the brewery owner not only discovers a young man who shows real skill in brewing, but also his successor.
Some time after his training, Johann-Jacob Gehring initially leased the brewery from the childless couple and finally bought it in 1848.
He directs the company’s fortunes with great hard work and talent. In 1880 he became a founding member of the Bavarian Brewers’ Association and handed the brewery over to his son Heinrich Gehring.
The brewery has been at its current location since 1892.
In 1919 he handed the brewery over to his two sons Hans and Karl. After the death of his brother, Karl Gehring also had to cope with the next blow of fate – his son Karl-Heinz died in Poland in 1944. Karl Gehring and his wife also did not survive the war.
In 1945, daughter Cläre took over the brewery business. After her marriage to Dr. Heinz Pritzl took over management of the company in 1950.
In 1995, his eldest son Karl-heinz joined the company management.
Even today, 200 years after it was founded, the Kauzen-Bräu still exists as an independent family business. 33 employees produce and ship over 100,000 hl of beer and non-alcoholic drinks in the anniversary year. As a member of the community of values ​​“Deutsche Brau-Kooporation”, “Die Freie Brauer” and the “Mainfranken Bier” community, we feel connected to our homeland and the people in the region
We want to continue to assert ourselves as a regional brewery in the coming years.
