Hausbrauerei Rampendhal
The Rampendahl site is part of the oldest bourgeois settlement area in the city, of which only a few buildings remain due to the destruction of the Second World War. The house has one of the few remaining gables from the Baroque period from the mid-18th century.
The group of three preserved town houses, which include today’s brewery, represents the once vibrant diversity of the buildings on Hasestrasse. The central axis of the plastered facade of the Rampendahl brewery, which is topped off with a hipped roof, is accentuated by a beautiful sandstone portal. At the rear, the house still has the remains of a stonework, a medieval building form that was first mentioned in 1177 and served to protect against the constant risk of fire. The brewery was named after a group of dissatisfied citizens who probably named themselves after the name of an innkeeper in Osnabrück’s new town, where they met to discuss matters over beer and wine. With its uprising against the council elite, which consisted almost exclusively of wealthy merchants, in 1430, the Rampendahl Society only achieved short-term success against the influence of the patrician families. Ultimately, the leaders of the uprising were executed.
