Privatbrauerei Bolten GmbH & Co. KG
The history of the BOLTEN private brewery begins in 1266. At that time, the founder of the brewery, Heinrich the Brewer, was granted the right to brew beer at the Kraushof in Korschenbroich by the Myllendonk lordship. To this day, the Kraushof is the headquarters of the brewery and is therefore the seat of the oldest Altbier brewery in the world.
Over the generations, not only has the brewery been passed down to descendants, but the craftsmanship of brewing has been passed on and preserved to this day.
The current owner of the brewery, Michael Hollmann, took over the brewery in 2005. At the end of 2006 he was able to win Paul Bösken-Diebels, a proven beer connoisseur, as co-owner of BOLTEN.
Michael Hollmann has lived in Mönchengladbach with his family for many years and has been working in the brewery industry for two decades now. His original passion for beer was awakened in him when he ran his own small pub in Kiel twenty years ago. From then on, the topic of beer never left him. During his professional career he was responsible for large brands, most recently he was CEO of one of the largest beverage companies in Germany. It may not be surprising that the newspapers then commented on the purchase of the small private brewery BOLTEN with the title “Storm in a Teacup”, but it doesn’t bother you either.
“I am excited to continue the great tradition of the BOLTEN private brewery because I believe in the BOLTEN brand and what has characterized it for hundreds of years: an almost fanatical love of outstanding taste. You can feel that with every employee here. You can feel the pride in still existing as a small brewery, despite the waves of concentration and takeover battles in the beer industry. And that’s why we’re determined to continue writing the brewery’s history. We are a country brewery and deliver our beer to the region. Our concept is very simple: fresh beer with a first-class taste, i.e. fresh from the country,” said Michael Hollmann in an interview.
