Father Lefebure founded in 1765 the distillery. Some years later it changed for marketing reasons its name to an English one after the decree of Louis XIV making it illegal to sell West Indies rum to French Mainlands. It is known for ist heat reduced Vésou Rum. Vésou is the commonly name for fresh sugarcane juice in the French West Indies.

The site, open to the public, includes the plant in operation from January to late May and a rum museum. Distillery tours are only given during the cutting season (February to June, 45 min. tours departing Mo-Fr at 10.00, 11.30 and 13.30, Eur. 5).
