In 1850 James Sedgwick, captain of the clipper Undine and the pioneer after whom our whisky distillery is named, sailed into Table Bay and almost immediately decided to make the area his home. A few years later James Sedgewick, in 1886 he purchased a distillery in the picturesque town of Wellington. Today, the James Sedgwick distillery, is the Home to the award winning range of South African Whiskies, Three Ships & Bains Cape Mountain Whisky. It belongs to the Distell Group that was created in 2000 by the merger of Stellenbosch Farmers Winery (SFW) and Distillers Corporation. The Distell spirit portfolio consists of super premium and premium brandies, cognacs, white spirits, whiskies and liqueurs.
