Luckie Ales was established in 2009 and is an artisan microbrewery specialising in handcrafted Scottish beers and historic British ales. Brewing moved to Markinch in 2012, operating on a one-barrel plant. The brewery was sold in 2016, and relocated to new premises in Leven. Bottle conditioned beers are available from specialist beer retailers in Edinburgh and Fife.

Lindores Abbey is considered by many to be the spiritual home of Scotch Whisky, laying claim to the earliest written reference made to the drink, in the Exchequer Rolls of 1494.
