Braeval Distillery (Braes of Glenlivet)
Place Category: DistilleriesPlace Tags: Whiskey
Braeval distillery is a distiller of Scotch whisky in Chapeltown, Banffshire, Scotland. Founded in 1973 as Braes of Glenlivet, the distillery is owned by Chivas Brothers. The name was changed to avoid confusion with an unrelated single malt. Braeval has a sister distillery called Allt A Bhainne. Braeval claims to be the distillery with the highest elevation in Scotland; 355 meters above sea level. Although it has no maltings on site it has a splendid artificial pagoda roof that helps the distillery to blend into its surroundings. The distillery is unusual in that it has no warehouse or cask filling facilities on site, with the spirit tankered to the owner’s main warehousing area in Keith.
