Glen Spey Distillery
Place Category: DistilleriesPlace Tags: Whiskey
The Glen Spey distillery was founded in 1884 and acquired at a very early stage, in 1887 by Gilbey’s. The distillery was completely rebuilt in 1970. Apparently, an alternative name for this malt whisky distillery during the early years was Millhaugh. Glen Spey is one of five malt whisky distilleries located in the town of Rothes. The others are Glenrothes, Glen Grant and Speyburn (all active) and Caperdonich (mothballed). Most of the malt whisky distilled at Glen Spey is used in the famous brand of J&B blended whisky.

The first filling of Speyburn Single Malt Scotch Whisky coincided with the year of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. To be certain that it was made for the Jubilee, men worked through the night in a heavy snowstorm and managed to produce one single barrel. Speyburn continues to use traditional distillation methods that created the single barrel of the 1897 vintage. Read more...

At The Glenrothes we believe that whisky is a bit like people; or wine perhaps, in that it matures in casks at its own gentle pace. Sometimes this takes longer than expected, sometimes we are surprised early. But whether it’s a Vintage, a Single Cask or one of our House Reserves, we only ever bottle The Glenrothes when we deem Read more...

The distillery produced its first single malt in 1978.[3] The single malt was rebranded as The Singleton in 1986, as the name Auchroisk was perceived as too difficult for consumers outside of Scotland. The name changed back to Auchroisk in 2001, when a bottleing was released under the name Auchroisk 10 Year Old Flora & Fauna’ in the Diageo Flora Read more...
