Scapa Distillery
The Scapa distillery was built in 1885 by John T. Townsend and one Mr. MacFarlane. In 1994 the distillery was mothballed, but since 1997 each year a small amount of whisky was distilled by a crew from the nearby Highland Park distillery . Full time production of malt whisky resumed in November 2004. The distillery uses bourbon casks for maturation. Most of the malt whisky produced at Scapa distillery is still used in blended whisky like Ballantine’s.
