The distillery was founded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill. Together with Lagavulin, Talisker represented a heavier side of the single malt spectrum. In 2010 a new company, Argyll Breweries, was set up and now owns both Isle of Mull Brewing and Oban Bay Brewery.
