It is all about beer – not just any beer, but excellent beer. The beers are brewed at The Old Mill in Netheravon, Wiltshire. The “old mill” was built in 1914 to generate electricity for the new airfield nearby, using the water power from the River Avon.
The building was put to a variety of other uses after generation ceased and was sold by the MoD in 1983.
Tony Bunce started The Old Mill up as a brewery in 1984 and got the building Grade II listed in 1986.
In 1993 Danish Master Brewer, Stig Anker Andersen bought the brewery and took up the challenge of brewing good English beer.
In 1998 the business name was changed from Bunces Brewery to Stonehenge Ales Ltd.
Netheravon is in the Avon Valley in the eastern part of the Salisbury Plain on the A345 just a stone’s throw from Stonehenge.
Visits to the idyllic brewery on the River Avon are welcomed, but prior to arrangement.
