DeBellis Winery is a small boutique winery that produces only 500-600 cases per year of superior wine. Prices are extremely reasonable for the high quality wine they produce. Mike DeBellis has been a wine maker for over 40 years who got his start early in life in Italy. He is one of the few wine makers in Paso who makes 3 varietals of Italian wine. Additionally, his Cab, Syrah, Pinot Noir and blends are to die for.
Mike DeBellis exchanged my estate grown Pinot Noir grapes for four vintages, 2013, 1014, 2015, and 2016. He was supposed to harvest the grapes and take the entire crop for no payment and in exchange return to me 50% of wine made. 2013 and 2014 were bottled correctly and the wine was good. He sold his share privately. In 2015 he bottled the wine using second hand bottles, and returned the wine to me with no caps. Wine was dreadful. In 2016 it was like pulling teeth to have my share given to me. I have just tasted it and it is BAD – may not even be wine made from my grapes. Mike DeBellis is an under the radar guy who does not operate with any ethics. He refuses to communicate and wanted to keep the entire production of 2015 and 2016 for his personal use and profit. Absolutely do not recommend anything from this so-called vintner.
Mike DeBellis takes grapes from local growers and promises to make wine from those grapes and return 50% of the bottles made to the grower. He markets his share of the wine produced although he is not a licensed, bonded winery. My experience with Mike DeBellis is that he attempts to return inferior wine , in second hand bottles, and this wine may not even be made from the harvested premium grapes. All in all an operation that works under the radar and one which should be avoided. Tours are not available.
Mike DeBellis ooperates mysteriously – not being open to tours and marketing wine that he makes from other vintners grapes which he has not paid for. He bottles wine in inferior bottles and sometimes does not put caps on the bottles. No bond or license exists for this operation.
