While working for a local fabrication shop for several years, owners Wesley Hewey and Andrew Sanborn had built or worked on several brewing systems. Using this experience and love of beer, they decided to design and build one of their own. After renovating a section of their third partner Stacy Strattard’s barn and installing the new system they began to experiment and create their own recipes. They started focusing on simplistic traditional beer styles and the history behind them.
After years of late nights and weekends Birchwood Brewing was formed and it challenged them to take their skills to next level. The three founders envisioned creating an inviting and comfortable atmosphere where everyone can unwind and enjoy a few pints with their friends and family.
You can experience the result of their vision at Birchwood’s Tap Room located at 19 Portland Road in Gray, Maine. The brewery offers a pub style menu, small batch hand crafted, cold beer, cider and hard seltzer.
