Black Fire Winery
Black Fire Winery opened its doors in 2016. It was the dream and destiny for Michael Wells, the owner. For many years, Michael was a lieutenant working for a full-time fire department.
In 2002 Michael took his hobby to the next level by studying viticulture, enology, winemaking at Michigan State University and growing grapes. Two years later Michael finished classes and planted 5 acres of grape vines.
He was the first person to start a commercial vineyard in Lenawee County and as the vineyard grew his grapes were sold to Local winery’s and home winemakers.
With detailed planning and designing in 2016, the construction of the tasting room was finished. A year after opening the tasting room doors cider and beer were added to the beverages manufactured.
Black Fire Winery has on tap eight beers and eight ciders available with a variety of wines to choose from. You will find at Black Fire Winery the wines refreshing and new, specializing in unique batches. The wine list changes, that’s why we tell people to seize the moment because if you wait too long your new favorite wine may be gone.
Michael is proud to be the first black person to own a commercial vineyard, winery and brewery in the state of Michigan.
At Black Fire Winery our desire for you is to visit us as strangers and leave us as friends so we invite you to drop by, spend the afternoon or evening enjoying the great view of our vineyard, and listen to live original music played by talented musicians.
