Vine Street Brewing Co.
A new chapter in Kansas City’s brewing history is about to begin as Vine Street Brewing Co. gears up for its grand opening in 2023. As the first Black-owned brewery in Missouri, the company aims to bring the joy of craft beer to diverse communities. The idea for Vine Street Brewing Co. was first conceived by Kansas City-based rap artist and beer lover Kemet Coleman, who had long dreamed of opening a brewery in his home city but had faced several setbacks along the way.
Enter Woodie Bonds, a member of Ford Motor Company and the creator of the Hip Hops Hooray beer festival. When Coleman stumbled upon a prime location in the historic Jazz district, he knew he had found the perfect spot for his brewery and reached out to Bonds to propose a business partnership. Bonds was immediately on board, and the two soon brought in Elliot Ivory, another local homebrewer, to complete their brewing team.
