Welcome to The Old School Brewing Company. Born of a fond remembrance of the renaissance years of brewing in the 1980s, a time and a place that holds space in the hearts (and a pint-glass-sized place in the hands) of many of us who were there. We remember the crunch of peanut shells on the floor, the welcome of a cracked vinyl barstool, the friendly extra crowd on a rainy afternoon (“Landscaper’s holiday!”) when there was nothing to do but drink, and the tasty newness yet familiarity of it all. It was here that so many of us experienced the profound pleasure of a deep cold sip of our first locally brewed ale (a pleasure that not so long ago we had to imagine ourselves in England to enjoy). And it was here that we first sat at the bar interestedly watching some brewery oompa-loompa hosing out a giant silver beast that recently housed that same beer. Maybe it was here that you first enjoyed the novelty of being allowed to bring your dog to the bar. Or your first “flight” and the spark of excitement at the vast world of beer styles. If you are like us it was here, wherever you’re “here” was, that you first found that you too could have your own “local,” a neighborhood place that you knew and were known (“Norm!”) and that was home. That was and is…Old School Brewing.
And so we celebrate it here, resurrecting the Old School Brewing artwork that was such a part of our experience. The T-shirts and posters and glassware that at one point were (respectively) our wardrobe, our apartment’s art gallery, and the bulk of the “dishes” in our kitchen. The special beers that came and went. The perennial favorites that stick around (Breakfast Beer is forever!). We are glad to be able to offer it here and keep those memories alive. Here is a celebration of all the beers that were and all the beers still to come. Cheers!
